The Reflecting Pool

What words pour
speak
love
    family
        friends;

whisper
technology
    poetry
        commentary.

The loudest splash in
say
write it
    think it through
        remember.

Pooled, swirling
I hear them all
as I contmeplate
their messages to me.

Except—
Ones I work diligently
to usher away
to quell quickly
after giving only
a cursory audience
    politics
        religion
            money.

Thoughts, feelings,
mixing in my mind
fitting inside the shell
of who I am.
Seeping out
in reflective
expression
with flat camouflage
of the difficult positions.

Lopsided since
true full
self-acceptance
is not so easily
said aloud
even after
I say it inside.
