No Point

The issue on the table
all labored to eschew,
generated a moral concern;
one that burned the hue
of golden red-brown-orange.

Proponents and opponents alike
couldn’t find it in themselves even
to approach agreement.
Finally, each faction backed away from the table
vowing from behind clenched teeth
beneath lying eyes
to return the morrow to discuss things anew.

That promise they made despite knowing
what had come clear to all –
there was no point in talking
with no salvation in sight for
their errant sisters and brothers.

Three Word Wednesday burn, hue, moral

Random Graces

An errant smile for the goodness in my life
at the moment when things are quite bleak.
A pass on some uncomfortable task
before I had to steel myself to do it.
The chance to help someone by doing
something it’s a pleasure to work on.
Being appreciated when none was expected
and the humbling sensation of realizing
maybe it was something I needed.
These things see me on my journey
nudging me forward, encouraging me;

I hope it means what I think it does —
that I’m headed in a proper direction.
