I have no Heroes
Don’t get me wrong.
I benefit, my life’s enriched
by amazing things some do.
However, the mantle hero
seems only to
derange and dement
the object and worshiper alike.
So it would seem
I save myself a measure of grief.
And then too, not having heroes
seems saner than to
assign a bevy of
unfounded attributes
of strong moral fiber and such
to a veritable stranger
who does well
one thing or a few.
So without being
my own hero,
it seems I take excellent care
of myself on this important front.
And that’s more than enough.
