Random Thought on New Year’s Day: Mortality

Not for one hundred
years can the date be written
with just one digit.

One through nine went fast;
I used one each chance I got
without knowing why.

It dawned on me on
the first—I can’t again do
it in my lifetime.

  • An interesting angle on how a trivial instance can remind us of our mortality, should also remind us to enjoy each day?
  • Thanks Mark, and that's it really--the odd reminder that we're here for a little longer. And taking joy in the time we have is the best way to go.
